How do I participate?
How often can I enter, and can I use the same photo for multiple categories?
You may enter as many categories as you wish, however you cannot enter the same series or images into more than one category and a maximum of 5 images per category is allowed.
How do I find out if my photo is selected?
If you are shortlisted, you will receive a free submission review of your entry from our honorary judges.
Must photographs I submit be my own original work?
Yes. Any photograph that you submit for this contest must be your own original work and otherwise free from third-party copyright restrictions. Photographs that do not meet this requirement are not eligible for use in this contest.
How much does it cost to enter?
R150 per category, entries are limited to 5 images per category.
Do I have to have a certain style to enter?
No. The judging panel is a diverse collection of top photographers with different approaches to photography and will evaluate your photographic style from a strictly professional point of view.
Do I retain ownership of my images after I have entered the competition?
Yes. Your images will not be used without your consent except to promote APA and you as a photographer.
What are the rules regarding the alteration of photos?
Digitally manipulated images can be submitted; however, judges may request that the RAW files be provided.
Are there qualifications required to enter the contest?
No, the competition is open to all, however, the judges are looking to create a showcase of African photography, so the judging standards will be high.
What does it mean to operate as a non-profit organization?
No entity will profit financially from this venture.
How does judging work?
A carefully selected panel of highly esteemed judges that come from different backgrounds, experiences and who embody different styles of photography are selected. As an entrant you will remain anonymous, thus keeping the contest unbiased and fair. Judges will review digital images online and eliminate entries until a final selection is made. Thereafter winners will be voted for by the judges.
